| Taylor's Fish Ltd Small Business Award winner 2006 Taylor's impressed the Edge Awards judges with its SkillShare training scheme, which gave staff the chance to pass on their own skills and experience. Employees are also encouraged to engage in Modern Apprenticeships and NVQ qualifications in customer service, team leading and management. As a result, financial turnover has increased by 40 per cent in two years and the Taylor’s team is developing a number of healthy-eating initiatives, including a salad bar. Taylor's explains why its training and development programmes are so important to the business: "We started out by surveying the staff and we were staggered by the response: everyone wanted to become more involved in the business, so we set about training staff in all aspects of its operations. Now, our team has a passion for the business that we could never have hoped for and they are confident they can do the jobs they have been trained to do." Winning the Edge Award provided Taylor's with funding to open up one of the empty units on its precinct as a training school to teach people about working in its industry.
